Priorities

I was in the parking lot, with the key in the car, and I thought to myself: If this is my last night on earth, would I rather spend it at a business meeting or with this woman? I ran across the parking lot, asked her if she’d have dinner with me. She said yes, we walked into town, and we’ve been together ever since.

Broccoli & Chocolate

Without pain, how could we know joy?’ This is an old argument in the field of thinking about suffering and its stupidity and lack of sophistication could be plumbed for centuries but suffice it to say that the existence of broccoli does not, in any way, affect the taste of chocolate.

Impossible

The chief beauty about time
is that you cannot waste it in advance.
The next year, the next day, the next hour are lying ready for you,
as perfect, as unspoiled,
as if you had never wasted or misapplied
a single moment in all your life.
You can turn over a new leaf every hour
if you choose.

Let Difficulties Know Who You Are

Difficulties

“Difficulties in your life do not come to destroy you, but to help you realise your hidden potential and power, let difficulties know that you too are difficult” Dr APJ Abdul Kalam

I think this quote by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam is so powerful and true.

Think for a moment of the humble tree. It starts out as a sapling, then over time grows and becomes bigger until it reaches its full potential. It spreads out its roots to anchor itself deep into the earth. If it gave up spreading roots at the slightest obstacle or if the soil was slightly too hard to penetrate, it would soon die or stay a sapling.

Because the tree’s roots go in search of new ground and deeper nutrients, it grows tall and strong enabling itself to withstand strong winds and hail storms.

We are no different. We need to grow daily, seek new possibilities and use our talents and gifts for others. We should in the words of Kalam- ‘let our difficulties and problems know that we too are difficult’

Stay blessed

Three Essentials

“One, remember to look up at the stars and not down at your feet. Two, never give up work. Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is empty without it. Three, if you are lucky enough to find love, remember it is there and don’t throw it away.”
Stephen Hawking

Don’t Give Up

Don’t let go
You’ve got the music in you

Don’t give up
You’ve got a reason to live

“God knows your value; He sees your potential. You may not understand everything you are going through right now. But hold your head up high, knowing that God is in control and he has a great plan and purpose for your life. Your dreams may not have turned out exactly as you’d hoped, but the bible says that God’s ways are better and higher than our ways, even when everybody else rejects you, remember, God stands before you with His arms open wide. He always accepts you. He always confirms your value. God sees your two good moves! You are His prized possession. No matter what you go through in life, no matter how many disappointments you suffer, your value in God’s eyes always remains the same. You will always be the apple of His eye. He will never give up on you, so don’t give up on yourself.”

The mind… so powerful, so amazing, something  to be reckoned with. So powerful, so dangerous and yet so underdeveloped in most cases. What may be achieved with a mind that is harnessed to its full potential?

The Passage of Grief

bridge-1420009_960_720

Pixabay.com /Public Domain jager01

“Grief never ends…but it changes. It’s a passage, not a place to stay. Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith… It is the price of love.”  Unknown Author

There are so many golden nuggets to be gleaned from this one quote.

  • Grief is something we will all have to face at one time or another in our lives
  • Grief is pretty much an ongoing ’emotional’ aspect
  • It changes us
  • Most important – grief should never be a dwelling place, a place in life where we get stuck and where we end up moving in. It is a journey designed to change and empower but also teach us
  • Grief should never be viewed as a weakness, frailty or disability
  • Grief strengthens our faith in that we can be assured of our loved one being much better off if they had faith to believe God’s Word for salvation
  • Grief gives us a future hope of heaven

When God designed us, He also designed grief as part of the process we would go through to heal. Always remember – everyone grieves and mourns in their own unique way and there are no prescribed processes or ways of grieving.

Stay blessed.

When The Heart Breaks

sad-674811_960_720.jpg

Pixabay.com / Public Domain

While I was driving this morning I heard this statement being made on the radio :

“…he passed away recently because his wife died  earlier and he could not get over losing her…”

And that’s just it, isn’t it? That’s how we manage to survive the loss. Because love, it never dies, it never goes away, it never fades, so long as you hang on to it.”
Gayle Forman, If I Stay

And this made me think on the topic of loss and mourning of which so much has been written and said. The fact is this – we all mourn the loss of a loved one or a pet in our own unique way. Some patterns may emerge, some guidelines adhered but at the end of the day, we all grieve differently. And for some, the loss is too much. They can never get over losing a loved one with whom they have spent a lifetime.

Referred to as the ‘broken heart syndrome’ by experts.

Marcus Ringrose, husband of actress Mary Tamm  died the day after her funeral of Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

Another famous person who died of a broken heart is Johnny Cash, while both parents of NFL Star Doug Flutie, also died shortly after his death.

Love is such a powerful force that often gets underestimated.

Stay blessed

The Way Life Should Be

bird-1317599_960_720

“The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it? A Death! What’s that, a bonus? I think the life cycle is all backwards. You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you’re too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work. You work forty years until you’re young enough to enjoy your retirement. You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities, you become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating …and you finish off as an orgasm.”
George Carlin

Growing Older

“As you get older, the heart shed its leaves like a tree. You cannot hold out against certain winds. Each day tears away a few more leaves; and then there are the storms that break off several branches at one go. And while nature’s greenery grows back again in the spring, that of the heart never grows back.”

Going Underground

Ruling The World

How true are the lyrics to this song by Tears for Fears, in this day & age…?

Welcome to your life; there’s no turning back
Even while we sleep we will find
You acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on mother nature
Ev’rybody wants to rule the world

It’s my own desire, it’s my own remorse
Help me to decide. Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There’s a room where the light won’t find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do, I’ll be right behind you
So glad we’ve almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Ev’rybody wants to rule the world

I can’t stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you’ll never, never, never, need it
One headline, why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world

King For A Day

Absolutely love these lyrics to King For A Day….so true of everyday life!

If I was king for just one day
I would give it all away for loving you

Some people hunger spend a fortune all their lives
The saddest fools in paradise

IF I WAS KING FOR JUST ONE DAY
I WOULD GIVE IT ALL AWAY
I WOULD GIVE IT ALL AWAY FOR LOVING YOU
IF I WAS KING FOR JUST ONE DAY

Diamond rings And all those things
They never sparkle like your smile
And as for fame It’s just a name
That only satisfies you for a while

I’ve heard it said
Or maybe read
Only money makes the world go ’round
But all the gold
Won’t heal your soul
If your world should tumble to the ground

So listen,
Love is all, love is all, love is all we need…
